In celebration of the 130th anniversary of the Lumière Cinematograph, join us for the premiere of “Lumière ! The Adventure Continues” in the UAE.
One hundred and thirty years ago, the Lumière brothers invented cinema. Everything was already there: the composition, the tracking shots, the dramatic scenes, the comedy sketches, and the actors. Thanks to the restoration of over 100 previously unseen Lumière films, the feature film offers us an intact spectacle of the world at the turn of the century, and a captivating journey to the origins of a cinema that knows no end.
Lumière, The Adventure Continues features:
– The Lumière films: 120 works of total discovery, 120 films that have not been shown on the big screen in 130 years.
– Thierry Frémaux’s erudite, didactic commentary and his historical, philosophical and aesthetic perspectives, full of unexpected insights that lead us up to the cinema of today.
– Music by composer Gabriel Fauré is an essential element in the staging and enhancement of the film.
Gabriel Fauré was chosen (as was Camille Saint-Saëns previously for Lumière, The Adventure Begins) because he was a contemporary of Louis and Auguste Lumière.
The film is divided into eleven chapters, with a prologue and an epilogue – plus a surprise from Francis Ford Coppola, sneaked into the credits (so watch until the very end!). Each section tells the story of the Lumière adventure and, more broadly, the adventure of cinema.
Sorties d’usine Productions, the commercial subsidiary of the Institut Lumière (Lyon’s film library, located on Rue du Premier-Film, where the Lumières filmed Leaving the Factory in 1895), produced the film. And Thierry Frémaux was able to choose from among the 300 Lumière films newly restored by the L’Immagine Ritrovata laboratory, thanks to the CNC, allowing us to discover more than 120 of these completely unknown, yet splendid films.
