Mamluk Carpet with Three Medallions
End of 15th century
Made in the workshops of Cairo, the capital of the Mamluk sultanate, this ceremonial carpet is decorated with three central medallions surrounded by a wide border. The geometric figures and stylised plants are also found in architectural decoration and in illuminated manuscripts from the same period.
