Bowl with Cover Decorated with Plant Motifs
ca. 800
This item exemplifies the splendour of the creations of Chinese craftsmen during one of the most magnificent periods of Asian art, where the influence of the metalworking of ancient Iran still made itself felt. This multifoil bowl of partially gilded silver has a splayed ring-shaped base and a flat lid that fits perfectly into the rim. The ribbing on both the exterior and interior frames five different finely engraved compositions of fruit and flowers characterised by fertile imagination and the utmost delicacy.
