Chirisei Kyubiki
1960
Kazuo Shiraga
Kazuo Shiraga (1924–2008) saw creation as a struggle, a bodily combat with paint or matter. Action and energy are components of his work. In this case, the painting was done with his feet on a canvas laid on the ground and covered with pigments. The movements thus imprinted are a transcription of the artist’s spiritual energy.
