Bodhisattva
ca. 100-300 CE
Depicted with half-closed eyes, as though immersed in profound meditation, this Bodhisattva displays an expression common to the religious traditions of the Indian world. The representation of his clothing with large folds certainly originates from the Greek garment called himation. The figure’s refined appearance and various adornments testify to the princely character of this Buddha in the making.
